Here is a really interesting story on Ars Technica about cloning new apps on the app store. Essentially what happens is a new app is added to the app store and hits the top of the charts. Then, other developers use the same icons and information to make ripoff "updates" to the new app. Crazy stuff! Apparently the folks approving the apps for the app store, don't even do a search to see if the new app is indeed a ripoff.
For its own benefit and ours, Apple needs to crack down on this stuff. If developers can't make money on apps, we are gonna see a lot fewer good apps out there.
